| Summer in the ARTBEAT Studio features
weekly themes with projects in different media:
acrylic painting, mosaics, decoupage, doll making and sand painting;
watch for special workshops in silk painting, metal embossing and more. Projects
take about an hour to complete and can be taken home the
same day. Our projects are suitable for teens, youth, children as young as 4 years, and adults.
You don't need any experience: we provide instruction with each project. Children under age 8 need to have adult helpers with
them. Children as young as 3 can do sand art, and we also
have coloring pages and dot markers available for children
who are too young to join in our regular projects.
Projects are priced per person and start at $10;
average is $15 to $25 depending on choices.
You can reserve studio space ahead of time, but it is not
necessary (groups of family and friends should agree ahead
of time that they will work with the same media so that
they can sit together; groups of 6 or more MUST reserve
ahead of time) |
Week
1: July 7 – 11 Awesome Animals
What’s your favorite animal – a dog, a cat, a
hippo, a giraffe? Make your choice and find ways to make
the critter you like best: choose from our papier mache menagerie
to decorate with paint or fancy papers; construct an animal
on canvas or discover an animal shape in our rock collection
and color it in with acrylics; make an animal-shaped mosaic;
or paint a series of animals on sand ‘canvases’ |
Week
2: July 14 – 18 Crazy Alphabets
It’s all about you! Spell your name or initials in
wooden letters for a fun room decoration that you paint or
decoupage; create alphabet marbles to make a “best
friends” frame or doorknob hanger; design funky alphabets
on ceramic tile magnets; paint your name in canvas; decorate
giant 2-ft letters to hang on your wall or make a mosaic
monogram (order these last two in advance) |
Week
3: July 21 – 25 3-D Magic
Learn how to make your designs POP! off the canvas when
you wear 3-D glasses (provided). You’ll be amazed
how easy it is to get this special effect when you use
paint on canvases, boxes, and frames, or when you paint
with sand.

Week
4: July 28 – Aug 1 Suns, Stars, and Outer Space
Whether you’re a sun worshipper or a robot lover, you’ll
find lots to do in this heavenly celebration: paint a giant
sun; construct a robot on canvas; decoupage a sun mirror;
create outer space sand pictures; make a stained glass sun
catcher; or make tin ornaments that are out of this world. |
Week
5: Aug 4 – 8 Underwater World
There’s a magical world under the sea, and it’s
calling out for art: emboss a metal fish mobile; make lovely
mermaid dolls; decoupage mache fish; make mosaic whales and
sharks; or decorate a box for your shell collection |

Week
6: Aug 11 – 15
Time to Make Time
It’s time to make clocks: mosaic clocks, clocks with
painted faces, clocks with giant hands, clocks made out of
sand, and recycled clocks from old cds. We’ll show
you how to make a clock from almost anything. |
Week
7: Aug 18 – 22
Castles, Crowns, and Dragons
A jeweled crown, a magic wand, a tabletop castle, with
a few scary dragons thrown in – create your own adventure
in the world of wizards or royalty. You can paint, decoupage,
emboss, mosaic, and more. |
Week
8: Aug 25 – 29 Lights Out!
When it’s time for dinner or time for bed, it’s
great to have a flickering candle or a soft night light to
keep you company: decoupage a Chinese lantern or string lanterns,
roll and decorate beeswax candles, embellish wax candle holders
for led tealights, make beaded votives, and more.
